Build a Weeknight Dinner Collection That Works
Dinner is the most widely saved category across Qwikdish cookbooks, spread across more separate users than any other.
The weeknight dinner problem is not a shortage of recipes. It is that at 6pm, with everyone hungry, you cannot remember any of the good ones you saved.
A dinner collection is a decision aid, not an archive. If it does not shorten the decision, it is not working.

What makes dinners different to organise
- Time is the filter that matters. Not cuisine, not ingredient. Tag by how long it actually takes you, not the time the recipe claims.
- You cook the same twelve meals most of the time. The collection exists to surface those twelve, not to store two hundred.
- The constraint is usually what is already in the fridge, which is why searching by ingredient beats browsing by folder.
How to build it
- Save from wherever you find them, including video, so the collection is not limited to blogs.
- Tag by effort: a 20-minute tag and a weekend tag will do more work than any cuisine label.
- After you cook something, note what you changed. That is what makes the second attempt better.
- Every few months, delete what you never cooked. A dinner collection gets worse as it gets bigger.
Frequently asked questions
How many weeknight recipes should I actually keep?
Fewer than you think. Most people cook a rotation of roughly twelve meals. A collection that surfaces those quickly is more useful than one holding hundreds you will never open.
What is the best way to tag dinner recipes?
By effort and by main ingredient. At 6pm the two questions are how long it takes and what is in the fridge, so those are the tags that earn their place.
